Biography

Michelle Chapa Marketing Comittee Coordinator

I am a Houston-based violent crime victim, domestic violence survivor, and advocate for public safety and bail reform in Texas. After surviving multiple armed robberies while managing a cell phone store in Houston’s Heights neighborhood, I turned my traumatic experiences into a powerful voice for change.

My firsthand encounters with repeat offenders and a justice system that I feel prioritizes criminals over victims has led me to speak out against lenient bail policies in Harris County. I have testified before the Texas House Criminal Jurisprudence Committee and have spoken at public hearings before the Harris County Bail Bond Board and Commissioners Court.

My advocacy and personal story have been featured in national media outlets, including WBUR’s Here & Now. I have discussed the emotional impact of violent crime and the consequences of violent crime. My personal testimony has also been highlighted in The Texan, The Texas Voice and others.

I continue to be a vocal proponent for policies that ensure accountability and protect victims. I emphasize the need for a justice system that balances the rights of the accused with the safety and dignity of victims and the public at large.
