I have not been a victim of violent crime. In 1992 a friend of mine was murdered. He was an immigrant and owned a small store in the Montrose area. He was murdered for the money in his cash register. It destroyed his immigrant family

In 1994, another friend of mine was severely beaten by a group of "skin heads" who believed he was a homosexual. He refused to call the police out of fear and moved. 

This has all had a traumatic effect on me. I became involved in the crime victims group Justice for All in the late 90s and have cared about this issue ever since. In that tradition, I am a proud member of Texas Crime Victims United, lending my voice to the legislative efforts.
